Description

NGC 7129 is home to a very young open cluster of protostars thought to be less than one million years old.  Recent studies reveal over 130.  This active stellar nursery lies close to 3300 light years distant.  The many red crescent shapes are Herbig Haro objects, ionized gas near the energetic outflows of the newly forming stars. This glowing cavern of dust and gas will continue to recede from the radiant stars within.

Annie Jump Cannon, a pioneer in classifying the stars we look at every day, reminded us of the benefit and blessings of looking up.....“In these days of great trouble and unrest, it is good to have something outside our own planet, something fine and distant and comforting to troubled minds. Let people look to the stars for comfort.”  (Annie Jump Cannon- 1941)
