Description

My wife took one look at this and said it looked like a recliner - hence the name. However, the rest of the world calls this barred spiral galaxy NGC 2146. The galaxy's most conspicuous features are the dusty lanes of the spiral arm lying across the core of the galaxy and the arm being bent 45 degrees. Its believed that this bent appearance is the result of a collision between 2 galaxies, This also caused an excessive amount of star generation making this a starburst galaxy.  Its in the constellation Camelopardalis about 70 million light years away. Its a bit smaller than the Milky Way at a diameter of 80,000 light years.

I was fortunate to image this before the reflective snow came but after the tourists left my rural location.  I was able to image over 4 nights and got a total of over 23 hours. This was better weather than normal. Thanks for taking the time to look.
