Description

I'm getting used to imaging with an SCT versus a camera lens and I find the learning curve to be considerable. However, I finally feel like I'm learning the nuances of the larger reflector scope. This is the Crescent Nebula taken from my backyard over parts of 4 nights. Although processed mostly in PixInsight, I experimented with using 2 different luminosity layers in Photoshop, one from starless Ha and another from starless OIII. I found that by varying the opacity of each individual layer, I could control the relative intensity of the blue outer Oxygen envelope surrounding the Crescent. Capturing the Oxygen shell was my primary objective when I started this target as this was a struggle in my previous attempt last season. Ironically, I found the most pleasing final version seemed to be where I "dialed down" the blue shell layer quite a bit. Let me know what you think if you have the time.
