Description

In 1969 H.R. Dickel, H. Wendker and J. H. Bieritz (DWB) developed a catalogue of 193 optically visible HII objects in the Cygnus-X region of the Cygnus constellation.  Ever since I discovered the presence of this work and the numerous opportunities this HII-rich region provides for astrophotography I’ve wanted to image its vast grandeur in one image, which now became a possible with my new Samyang 135 imaging rig.

Here I've chosen to frame the image in such a way as to encompass some familiar objects, such as the Butterfly Nebula (IC1318) and the Crescent Nebula (NGC6888), anchored by Sadr, the yellow-white supergiant star that stands out from within the very large Cygnus-X region.  Processed here in HOO the final image provides a magnificent view of this large, interesting area.
