Description

The Owl Nebula, ~2030 light years away, is a planetary nebula in the constellation of Ursa Major. The name of the nebula comes from its resemblance of owl eyes/head from the contrast of the darker and lighter regions. The nebula spans 0.91 light years but only holds 0.13 solar masses of matter. The central star has passed an apex of its evolution and is condensing to form a white dwarf.
