Description

The Veil Nebula in its entirety is the Cygnus Loop, a remnant of a supernova that exploded ~15,000 years ago.  The supernova would have been visible from Earth, brighter than the planet Venus, visible in the daytime.

Located 2,400 light-years from Earth, the Veil Nebula is 130 light years in diameter [nearly 40 times the area of the full moon].

This is a narrowband image, with the Hydrogen Alpha, Oxygen III and Sulphur II mapped to the Hubble Pallette.
