Description

NGC 3184, the Little Pinwheel Galaxy, is a spiral galaxy approximately 40 million light-years away in the constellation Ursa Major. Its name comes from its resemblance to the Pinwheel Galaxy M101. Its numerous Hii regions, here captured with an Ha filter, are so prominent that have been assigned individual denominations NGC3184-xxx. One specially visible (the one at 10:00 hrs to the center in our picture) has its own name NGC3181.
While talking about classifications, Simbad seems to use the two entries NCG3180 and NGC3184 interchangeably for the whole galaxy.

NGC 3184 housed recently several supernovae and, in 2010, what appeared to be a supernova, but was later recognized to be in reality the outburst of a variable star (but: what an outburst!!!)

The nearby star mu-UMa, just outside the field, created bad reflections in my optics, and that required some additional precautions both during recording and while processing to keep them at bay.
I discarded a good three hours of signal captured with L-Pro filter as its quality was worse than the one obtained with the clear filter, which is published here.
