Description

IC 443 - Jellyfish Nebula.

As we are approaching April and the nights are getting a lot shorter up here in Scandinavia, I believe this shot will be my last until the end of summer.
  • For this, I wanted to do something special. I brought my equipment from the backyard, where I have some very strong streetlights as well as general light pollution around, to a nearby river where I had previously shot starscapes of the Milky Way earlier in 2022.

Apart from the struggle of carrying all of it by hand, upon arriving and setting my equipment up, I ran into a list of problems.
  • While I was able to work around all of it, time had not waited for me and I missed around an hour and a half of imaging.
  • Not only that, but the auto-guiding had quit on me and I hadn't noticed, leaving me with another forty-five minutes lost.
  • I was left with only thirty minutes of data. Needless to say, I was disappointed.

So as I arrived home I took a look at the data I had. A lot of noise was present in the image, some of it able be removed using NoiseXTerminator.
  • I used the knowledge I have acquired so far in post-processing and ended up with an image that I am happy with.

Once the sky gets darker and I'm able to image again, my goal will be to spend more time with each object. I am also planning on getting my first dedicated astronomy camera later this year.

All the best to you, clear skies.
Lupus.
