Description

What started out as just a quick fill in target, turned into something much more interesting.  I wanted an LRGB target to image early in the night before a bright moon rose and switching to another target.  I had been shooting some dusty stuff near the core of the Milky Way, and had spotted this arrow looking dusty nebula while looking around in the Framing section of NINA.  It framed up pretty well in my FOV, so I set it up to shoot LRGB.

I wasn't expecting much, and when I quickly processed the first set of one hour of LRGB time I received what I expected.  A really dense star field and a pointy arrow of dust.  But when I removed the stars to process the dust, I noticed the telltale blue donut of a planetary nebula.  I tried to find it, but it was not apparent in any catalogs right away.  So I imaged some Oiii the next chance that I had along with a little more LRGB.  Sure enough, it was really bright in Oiii.  I knew that it was much too bright to have been undetected already, and I finally found it in the Hash catalog.  It is PNG 016.3-02.3 and is a "Lovely oval, flocculent high excitation PN showing in Oiii and Ha."  I liked how it added some interesting color and I also noticed that there was quite a bit of red in the background of the LRGB image indicating that there was probably some Ha.

So I imaged more LRGB to get better dust detail, and then did some Ha to add into the background.  So this image turned out much better than I originally thought, and was a fortunate find when I was just looking to fill in some imaging time.
