Description

This is an image of the Fireworks galaxy, NGC6946.      The Fireworks galaxy has gotten its name due to the fact that it's been the source of more supernova than any other galaxy visible to us in spite of only having 1/2 as many stars as our own Milkyway.   NGC6946 is 25M ly distant and approximately 87,000 light years across.

I shot this in my back yard with a TEC180FL scope with Astro-Physics QuadTCC reducer/corrector and a one shot color ASI2600MC camera.    The mount is an Astro-Physics 1100GTO with absolute encoders and all images were unguided but I used a DEC arc model for accurate tracking.    The exposures were 2 minutes and I took a total of 90 exposures.   I calibrated with darks, bias and flats.
