Description

Here is a rarely imaged chunk of sky located within the bowl of the big dipper. The bright star to the lower left is known as HD 102328. This 5th magnitude star lies 206 light years from earth. The swarm of tiny galaxies that surround this beacon of light lies a whopping 787 million light years from earth! If you could shrink the universe down to such a degree that you could reach out and touch the star with the tip of your finger, this galaxy cluster would still lie roughly 240 miles away! The bright galaxy at the upper right hand corner of the image is NGC 3898, as well as the second bright galaxy towards the bottom center, NGC 3888, lie about 11 times closer to earth at roughly 70 million light years. This nearly 6 hour exposure was made up of 177 two minute sub exposures shot with my 6" f4 Newtonian using a ZWO 385MC color camera and a Celestron CGX mount. I hope that you like it!
