This is a two-panel mosaic of the Heart Nebula, IC 1805, in Cassiopeia. It is an emission nebula, rich in hydrogen and sulfur that glow red as they are ionized by the bright young stars at the center of the image. There's also a lot of oxygen, but its blue color is overwhelmed by the red in this image.

The Heart Nebula is about 7500 light years away.

The image comprises four nights of data, with time divided about equally between the two mosaic panels. Key processing steps included WBPP with drizzle; SpectroPhotometric Color Calibration; GraXpert; MosaicbyCoordinates and PhotometricMosaic; all three Xterminator tools; Bill Blanshan and Mike Cranfield's ScreenStars script for both star removal and replacement; Generalized Hyperbolic Stretch; Local Histogram Equalization; the Curves, Histogram Transformation tweaks and Color Saturation.

This is the second image I captured as I complete shakedowns of my rig with a new mount. The data seems very good, and I plan to add revisions of this image in other color palettes to highlight some of the features not visible in this image.

The original file is 2.1GB. Reducing that to a 10MB JPG for upload here has degraded the fine detail quite a bit.
