Description

Messier 20, also known as the Trifid Nebula, is a star-forming region approximately 5200 light-years away, seen in the constellation of Sagittarius. It consists of an emission nebula (the red portion), a reflection nebula (blue), and a dark nebula (the spaces).

This narrowband image was processed in PixInsight using the Hubble Space Telescope palette (Red = SII, Green = Ha, Blue = OIII). Short-exposure RGB image data were also selectively blended into the image. (Note: this is a narrowband version of an RGBHaOIII image posted earlier)
