A first impression of the well known Eclipse from 08. April 2024. Captured in Dallas at Trinity Overlook Park with my CF-90 refractor on an ZWO AM-5 mount.
My first plan was to capture the eclipse in Johnson City, Hidden Valley Ranch Road. But the weather forecast made it clear, that Dallas or somewhere north-east would be the better position to have a chance to capture some pictures.

At the end the clouds disappeared more and more in Dallas. Almost perfect conditions. My hosts in Johnson City didn't have so much luck, obviously almost 100% cloud coverage during the eclipse.

It was amazing at Trinity Overlook Park. I've met so many friendly people, from the US but also Belgium.

And it was a pleasure for me to help a few people. Some forgot or lost their eclipse glasses. I brought more then enough from Germany. So I gave a few away. And I met Jorge (hope this is written right, the spanish version of "Georg"). He is a sports photographer, I think from Dallas or surroundings. He orderd but didn't get soon enough a solar filter for his lenses. I had a few Baader solar filter film pieces left, big enough. 15 minutes before the 1st contact we improvised a filter for a 70-200mm lens with the filter film and some tape. And it worked perfect for Jorge.
And many thanks to the couple next to my car. They've given me a small gift to thank me for the eclipse glasses. All in all an amazing day in Dallas. Regards to all people I met in Texas!

Views by Submitters (available since September 19th, 2023) Every image is assigned to 50% of available Submitters. In the event that at least 80% of them don't view the image before its time in the IOTD/TP process expires, it's assigned to the other 50% of Submitters and the process begins anew.
Promotions by Submitters When 3 distinct Submitters promote the image, it moves on to the next stage of the process: evaluation for Top Pick status. This requirement, in addition to anonymization of images and distribution to only a subset of them, prevents biases and ensures that the best images are selected.
Promotions by Reviewers When 3 distinct Reviewers promote the image, it moves on to the next stage of the process: evaluation for IOTD status.
Early dismissal Staff members have a lot of images to inspect on a daily basis, and they can dismiss images if they believe they don't meet the requirements for IOTD/TP selection. If an image is dismissed 5 times, it's removed from the process. This streamlines the process and ensures that any bias present in promotions could be overruled by other staff members.
