Lonely tree under the red flame of Orion - 28mm HaRGB panorama of the summer Milky Way arch of the southern hemisphere.

In the early morning hours of September the summer Milky Way arch stars to rise in the east. Full of h-alpha nebulae it will dominate in the southern sky the whole southern summer (our winter). It was actually not that easy to wait until the morning after shooting all night without at least a half an hour of nap. I found this tree on the way back from the observatory to the farm. The upside down Orion was already high enough in the sky to start my 28mm panorama. After Venus appeared from the horizon I realized I have only 30 min left until morning twilight starts. Limited in time I managed to photograph the whole arch. Ha-exposures I captured the other morning as they needed more time and I had to assess when to start shooting. Normally the air cools down in these hours that brings a lot green airglow to the image. Enjoy the southern summer Milky Way arch.

Sky: 21 panels, 4 images per panel with 40% overlap, exp. 45 sec, f2.8, ISO 6400, Sigma Art 28mm/f1.4, LP filter - Optolong Clear Sky, Ha: 5 panels, 3 images per panel with 40% overlap, exp. 2min, f2.8, ISO6400.
Foreground: 12 panels, 5 images per panel with 30% overlap, exp. 25 sec, f1.4, ISO 6400, Sigma Art 28mm/f1.4, no filter

Views by Submitters (available since September 19th, 2023) Every image is assigned to 50% of available Submitters. In the event that at least 80% of them don't view the image before its time in the IOTD/TP process expires, it's assigned to the other 50% of Submitters and the process begins anew.
Promotions by Submitters When 3 distinct Submitters promote the image, it moves on to the next stage of the process: evaluation for Top Pick status. This requirement, in addition to anonymization of images and distribution to only a subset of them, prevents biases and ensures that the best images are selected.
Promotions by Reviewers When 3 distinct Reviewers promote the image, it moves on to the next stage of the process: evaluation for IOTD status.
Early dismissal Staff members have a lot of images to inspect on a daily basis, and they can dismiss images if they believe they don't meet the requirements for IOTD/TP selection. If an image is dismissed 5 times, it's removed from the process. This streamlines the process and ensures that any bias present in promotions could be overruled by other staff members.
