Description

I finally collected good data on SH2-222, (My first attempt on this target,2024/02/02, I shot about 11 images) checking my data afterwards revealed my optics were just dirty.  So after a good cleaning I collected about 5 hours worth of Data on SH2-222.  I am happy with the post processing and am considering collecting maybe another hour or so on SH2-222 tonight.  I am not sure if the extra time on the target will be worth it, but just maybe it will. So it’s a toss up, between more time on SH2-222 or image M78.

I downloaded GraXpert a few months ago to see how it performs vs SIRIL on Gradient removal. In some cases GraXpert does a decent job, but on most of my other collections SIRIL does a much better job, in my opinion.  My first go with SH2-222 I used GraXpert and I thought it did a good job, and I finished post processing and was somewhat  happy with the result.  I decided to give it a a go using SIRIL and before noise cleanup the result was far better.  So for now I think I will stick with SIRIL for most of my post processing work.

NGC 1579
(also known as the Northern Trifid) is a diffuse nebula located in the constellation of Perseus. It is referred to as the Northern Trifid because of its similar appearance to the Trifid Nebula, which is located in the southern celestial hemisphere of the sky. It is a H II region, a region of star formation.[4]The star cluster contains the emission-line star LkHα 101, which provides much of the ionizing radiation in the nebula.[5]NGC 1579 lies within a giant molecular cloud known as the California Molecular Cloud.[6
