Description

Sirius, the brightest star in the sky and one of the closest, is situated only about eight light-years away. Even with the fastest spaceship humans have ever made, it would still take 40,000 years to reach Sirius. This star shines in a stunning white-blue hue, boasting a surface temperature of around 10,000 °C.

I captured the image using a refracting telescope Sky Watcher Esprit 100ED and a standard IR/UV filter. The total exposure time for the QHY268C astronomical camera sensor was 32 minutes (64 x 30 s). The sensor cooling was set to -10°C, while the camera operated in Photographic DSO Mode-2CMS, with a gain of 27 and an offset of 20. The ambient temperature was -2°C. The image was processed using PixInsight software. Sky quality was rated as Bortle 4 (SQM 21.62 mag/arcsec2).
