Description

Hello Friends,

once again one of the rarely imaged galaxies. NGC 7217. I has inspired by @Detlef Scholz image https://www.astrobin.com/03mtge/ Thanks Detlef for the inspiration!

Though it is a relative near galaxy with only 52 million light years, it is very small: only 2.5 arcmin in diameter. The outer ring has a diameter of 57 thousand light years. This ring galaxy consists out of two discs. An inner and a outer one, which differ in density. There fore you have more star building in the outer one and has a blue color, whereas the inner has older stars.

I had also many L frames (50 x 300s) but I have not used them, since the galaxy looked much nicer without the the L blend. The RGB data was taken in 6 nights - even full moon in a bortle 6 suburban area. My goal was also to created a natural look and not over process it. My credo is: Less is more…

I hope you enjoy it!
Rüdiger
