Description

The Croc’s Eye Galaxy (also known as Cat’s Eye Galaxy - Messier 94 or M94 or NGC4736) is a spiral galaxy inside the constellation Canes Venatici, about 16 million l.y. from us.
M94 has a particular structure made of three concentric rings, two of which are brighter than the others.
The inner brightest ring contains intense star formation activities, and its blue lightning is due to the presence of young hot stars.
The second ring contains an older yellow star population, but it has also star formation in the peripheral regions.
So, M94 is a rare example of galaxies in which two star-formation waves are visible.
In long exposition pictures, it’s possible to see another light external ring.
M94 is visible on its galactic plan and it’s one of the brightest of the M94 group, which contains between 16 and 24 galaxies gravitationally related; it appears getting away from us at a speed of 370 km/s.
