Description

The dark nebula GN 16.43.7, sometimes also called SFO 82 or Dark Tower of Scorpius, is a so-called bright rim cloud (BRC). The young OB stars of star cluster NGC 6231 ionize hydrogen on the dense dark clouds. This is how the glowing edges of the nebula are created, hence the name bright rim.
