Description

Here we have a try at galaxy NGC4725 in Coma Berenices, a spiral galaxy with a ring structure.  I have heard a nick-name for this, The One-Armed Bandit becasue of the one very prominent arm.  The galaxy lies approximately 40 million light years away and is the brightest galaxy in The Coma I Group.  This group appears to have a couple of dozen members and is moving towards the Virgo Cluster and may eventually merge with it.

This galaxy is a barred spiral, morphological classificaion SAB(4)ab.  The ring structure is an area of star formation and I tried to integrate Hα in an attempt to highlight the star forming regions.  I had some success there but I did not want to over emphasize that.  I was very pleased that I could do those 5-minute frames with no guiding and end up with round tight stars.

I think this is a really beautiful galaxy and I am pleased with the outcome of this one.   I also like all of the little faint galaxies in the background.

I would say this is my kick-off to the galaxy season but I seem to gravitate to galaxy subjects all through the year.

I hope you enjoy this one and as always, comments and criticism are welcome.  CS and good health!
