Description

Often overlooked due to its brilliant northern neighbors (the North American and Pelican Nebulae), IC 5068 is an intricate complex of emission and dark nebulae with much to offer the narrowband imager.  The dark rift bisecting the lefthand side appears to be associated with [DBY94] 28, from an obscure (pun intended) catalogue of dense molecular clouds of the Cygnus area.  This dusty region is known to harbor a number of submillimeter radio and infrared sources thought to be young stellar objects still deeply imbedded within the cold, dark clouds from which they were born.   The interstellar dust in this area can obscure light from background stars some 10 magnitudes, making them appear about 10,000 times fainter than if there were no dust.  The smaller bright nebula to the far right is LBN 322, and appears to have a curious complex nature itself.
Although the area has an over all appearance of a twister/tornado, if the universe ever had its own Rorschach inkblot test, IC 5068 would certainly fit the bill.  After spending several hours processing this data at high resolution, one begins to see ambiguous patterns in the dark striations across the face of the brighter nebulosity.  I always knew that processing these images would drive me to madness...enjoy!  As always, comments and constructive criticism are welcomed.

Title: adjusted color palette

Description: There are so many good options when it comes to the SHO color palette. I decided to back off the H-alpha/green contribution in effort to bring out a bit more of the SII (which is unusually prominent in the region) and give the weak OIII signal more of a leg to stand on. Hope everyone enjoys the image, and please comment as to which one you prefer! I look forward to some feedback on this one.
