This image was taken during Winter Star Party from Camp Wesumkee.
It was more of a filler image before my main target becomes visible.
Despite very short total exposure, I am surprised that the image turned out OK, although it took a lot of careful processing.
Processing steps:
I started processing with extracting stars from the OIII image, then I did some very aggressive noise reduction using:
- NoiseExterminator w/o mask
- TVGDenoise w/o mask
- MedianTransform with lum mask to clean up background
I also had to use clone stamp to eliminate remaining star halos.
After all that was done, I used NBColorMapper to produce color image out of OIII.
Processing RGB stars was very simple - spectroscopic color calibration, NXT, star extraction and finally star image stretch.
Biggest challenge was with one of the RGB channels which happened to have some satellite trail, which I had to eliminate using clone stamp.
And final step was just implanting RGB stars into OIII image using pixelmath.
