Started my Astronomy journey in 2016 and spent 8 months researching the hobby before buying any equipment. Retired in late 2017
Used a 10” f5 GSO dob ( manual push pull ) and Televue eye pieces for visual observing for the next 18 months
Started Astrophotography in mid 2018 with a GSO 6” f6 Newtonian Reflector , SW HEQ5 mount and Canon 600D
Dabbled in some planetary imaging with the same rig using Televue Powermates and BYEOS
Upgraded in 2019 with a SW 12” Goto Dob for visual observing and an 8” f5 GSO Newtonian Reflector , EQ6-R pro mount and kept using the Canon 600D
Upgraded the Canon 600D to a ZWO2600MC in August 2020
Built my NexDome Observatory in March / April 2021 at my retirement getaway ( Bortle 3 coastal retreat )
Upgraded my imaging rig in May 2022 to a Klaus Helmerich GSO 10” f5 carbon fibre Newtonian Reflector and SW EQ8-R pro mount
Still using the 12” f5 Goto dob and Televue eye pieces for visual observing
I image from 2 locations -
Bortle 7/8 City Suburban main residence ( Backyard)
Bortle 3 Retirement getaway ( coastal rural retreat ) NexDome Obs
I only visually observe from Bortle 3 Retirement getaway
I guess I caught aperture fever early on and never quite got over it.
As generally a late starter in the hobby it suits retirement perfectly as I would never have had enough time to balance work , family and other social activities.
