Description

Barnard 347 is a mesmerizing dark nebula that sits right next to Sadr, the radiant centerpiece of the Northern Cross.

I love dark nebulas because I initially perceive negative space and contrast, then flip the perception around and appreciate the dark area is in fact in front of the background, soaking up and blocking the light behind.

B347 is dramatically silhouetted against the stunning red glow of IC 1318, also known as the Butterfly Nebula!

Hold onto your telescopes—this entire spectacle is unfolding an incredible 3,800 light-years away!

About 9 hours of total integration across a few nights last month.
