Description

What a blessing to have such a galactic neighbor in our backyard!  And what a blessing to still have some dark skies left to behold and capture it.
My first effort to image and process this amazing target gives me a much deeper appreciation of it's scale and beauty.
Of course it's always been the familiar Andromeda Galaxy, M31.  But now it's that amazing neighbor of a trillion stars that I will now never take for granted.

Trace

Update: Rev C added increased exposure with the addition of fourteen 300s subs to the previous revisions which were 180s exposures.  See revision notes, and I welcome opinions on this longer exposure result...I'm not sure if I prefer it or not.

C

Description: Added fourteen 300s subs to the original data. Previous revisions were all with 180s subs, so it's interesting to see the effect of the increased exposure on this image. M31 itself benefitted I think from the increased exposure, but the price of the longer exposure is the increased saturation of the stars in the field and the impression of an underexposed or too dark background sky.
