Description

Very nearby, diffuse, spiral galaxy. Part of the local group that includes the Milky Way. Lots of active star formation. Well-known object for amateur astronomers.

Almost skipped this object because it's apparent size is much too large to fit in the field of view of my sensor. The image field of view is only of the central region of the galaxy, but I'm glad I took this; lots of interesting detail that wouldn't be resolved in a more distant galaxy. What look like blue stars are really unresolved clusters of young stars.

Captured images over two nights; one night of L exposures, and one night of R,G,B exposures.

The final image used
L - 72 (of 75) frames x 300s @ Gain 100 @ -10C = 6h 00m exposure time
RGB - 26 (of 26) frames x 300s @ Gain 100 @ -10C = 2h 10m exposure time, each
12h 30m total exposure time
