Description

Cederblad 51, also known as the Lambda Orionis Ring, is a part of Sharpless 2-264 located in the head of the constellation Orion. It is a molecular cloud and H II region situated in the northern region of the Orion Molecular Cloud Complex, where a massive hot star is forming. The molecular cloud is a cold condensation of gas and dust containing a large amount of hydrogen, while the H II region is formed by the ionization of surrounding gas by newly-formed stars. This region is of great interest to astronomers due to the immense energy released by these young stars as they form, providing insight into the evolution of galaxies and the formation of the universe.
