Description

A Rose by Another Name - This image, centered on the open star cluster NGC 6823 and surrounded by the bright HII  nebula region Sh2-86, is to me reminiscent of the more famous Rosette Nebula in the constellation Monoceros.  This 'rose' however, resides approximately 6,000 light years distant in the constellation of Vulpecula, The Fox.

Equipment and processing used: Celestron RASA-11 telescope with ZWO ASI294 MC Pro one shot color camera riding on an iOptron CEM120-EC2 mount.  N.I.N.A./PHD2 used for image acquisition.  94 individual five minute exposures (7.8 hours of data), captured on the evenings of May 18th, 19th, 20th and 22nd, 2023 from Mariposa, Ca.   Processed using PixInsight.  This image is cropped from the original to emphasize the bright nebula region.
