Description

This is a beautiful area in the Orion constellation containing the small reflection nebula Cederblad 51.  It is part of the larger SH2-264 complex which is often referred to as Orion's Head.  The region lies roughly 1,300 light years away from us.

This image was captured with my RiDK 400 at 2800mm focal length.  At the same time my FSQ106, which is piggy backed on the larger scope, was imaging the same target through a completely separate imaging train.  I posted that image a few weeks back in my gallery.

Once I get through my data backlog, I may come back and try to combine the data sets to create a single image. However, I am not sure that the resulting image would be eligible for IOTD consideration given the new rules.  So, that project will be one the back burner for now.
