Just a few shots from a gorgeous sunset over Pacific a couple of weeks ago. The Sun was extremely distorted and showed multiple green and blue flashes and other fragmentations (is red flash a thing?).
The final revision shows the most spectacular green-to-blue flash, while others highlight some of the other interesting shots!
Definitely wish I had a bit longer FL to capture this...
It starts off with a fragmentation from the lower part of the Sun ("red flash"), which is already a good start:
Then proceeds to produce the most spectacular green flash of the sunset (from the main revision):
I like how it quickly transitions first into a vibrant green and then into a blue flash. The three images above cover the interval of just two seconds (1s interval between frames). The Sun is still very bright, so the images above use F/10 and 1/8000s (the fastest shutter I can get on my R5).
The next green flash is fairly small and "boring", but still worth looking at:
Then comes another interesting moment when the Sun, becoming more and more like a pancake, produces
three green flashes at the same time:
If you look closely, they also turn a bit blue-ish before disappearing!
A bit later the Sun produces
two more green flashes at the same time:
The think pancake of the Sun then slowly disappeared from the view.
So in total we get something like
seven green flashes and one or two blue ones. Not bad for a single sunset!
I've also uploaded a screenshot from Lightroom to show that the images basically come straight out of the camera with minimal adjustments, no fancy stuff like gradients, retouche, etc. Didn't even increase vibrance or saturation.
