Description

The Omega Nebula is between 5,000 and 6,000 ly from us and it spans some 15 light-years in diameter. It is considered one of the brightest and most massive star-forming regions of our galaxy. Its local geometry is similar to the Orion Nebula except that it is viewed edge-on rather than face-on. The open star cluster NGC 6618 lies embedded in the nebulosity and causes the gasses of the nebula to shine. It is one of the youngest clusters known, with an age of just 1 million years. All according to Wikipedia. The Omega Nebula is too far south for my Swedish horizon, but fortunately the Ikarus Observatory has kindly publicly posted data from Spain  (https://ikiobservatory.com/data/M17_2020-10-30/) that I now took the opportunity to process. I made a HSO image (so Ha in the red channel and Sii in the green and Oiii in the blue). Used all the new XT tools in PI or PS.
