Description

Archimedes, the 27th target on the Lunar 100 list, is a large lunar impact crater located on the Moon's surface. It is named after the Greek mathematician and physicist Archimedes. Archimedes crater has a diameter of approximately 83 kilometers (52 miles) and is known for its well-preserved, prominent rim and central peak. The central peak is believed to have formed as a result of the impact that created the crater, and it rises to a height of about 1,800 meters (5,900 feet) above the crater floor.
