IC 1848, The Soul Nebula is the result of narrowband data collected during the incredible stretch of weather we just had in western NY November 5-8, 2021.
I have been telling folks that I ended up getting in 4 nights of capture on 3 scopes and collected data on 9 Targets! But this turned out not to be true. I actually had data for 10 targets!
I had forgotten the 10th one because I began it the last evening when I thought I might get another night or two on it. Well, that never happened - the weather changed and with only two hours of data on it I abandoned the project. I did not even capture any calibration frames for it!
But I recently built a small form-factor computer with some real power that I could use for image processing when away from home. I wanted to test out my software setup so I was looking for some data that I could use as a test case. I found this limited data set and thought - why not? Good enough to exercise some software!
To my surprise - the end result did not completely suck as much as I thought it would! I think the amazing ASI2600MM-Pro camera helped - as did some aggressive NR using both Pixinsight tools and Topaz AI Denoise.
This was taken with my Astro_physics 130mm APO scope, the IOptron CEM60 mount, and the ZWO ASI2600MM-Pro camera.
