Description

Observed on 7 May 2015 at the General Nathan Twining Observatory (GNTO) in New Mexico using a 12” Skywatcher Dobsonian: Located on a line from Arcturus through 12 Bootis. 7th magnitude star is ESE.

Observed on 30 September 2016 at the General Nathan Twining Observatory (GNTO) in New Mexico using a 12” Skywatcher Dobsonian: I viewed this globular cluster at low elevation (14 degrees) so I was disappointed in not being able to see any detail. The cluster has no or very little concentration towards the center and appeared to be irregular.

Note: This GC is unusual insofar as it contains a blue horizontal branch of stars.

Shapley Sawyer Classification: XII
Distance: 51,866 LY
Type: Far Halo Globular
Position w.r.t. core of galaxy: Almost directly above the sun.
Any stars resolved: No
Undergoing Core Collapse: No
