Description

Sh2-204 one of over 300 objects included in Stewart Sharpless' 1959 catalog of HII regions.  HII regions are clouds of interstellar hydrogen gas along with one or more nearby hot stars providing sufficient energy to ionize them.  Establishing the distances to such regions is one important tool for working out the structure of the Milky Way's spiral arms.

I couldn't find much online regarding this nebula.  A couple of fairly recent studies of distances to star forming regions put its distance at about 3.8kpc, or 12,400 light years.  That would put it on the far side of the Perseus Arm (for a neat diagram of the Milky Way, see https://science.nasa.gov/resource/the-milky-way-galaxy/.  Sh2-204 is at galactic longitude 145 degrees).

Title: with SII added

Description: There was enough SII signal to add some highlights in the image rendered in the HSO palette, but I couldn't breing out enough OIII to be visible (the OIII signal in my 10 minute subs was only about 1 ADU over the background).
