Description

Processed another image from my 4-inch refractor in between other tasks (and maybe a bit too long this morning after breakfast...)

The main bright part of it in the center is NGC 1491, and the rest of the area makes up Sh2-206. It's 10,000 lightyears away in the constellation Perseus. The blue-green areas are largely hydrogen gas; the reddish sections contain sulfur, and the more densely blue areas have higher concentrations of oxygen. These gases (and others) are energized by several massive stars that emit strongly in UV light. The energetic stellar wind from these stars is responsible for carving out the central cavity and shaping the gas and dust in the area. One of the main stars responsible is BD +50 886, which you can see at the center of the brightest region there. There's also a little puff of hydrogen & oxygen in the upper left corner I thought was interesting. I'm not sure if it belongs to this nebula or not.

I managed to get an astounding 42.5 hours on this target in less than two months -- I got a lot of good subframes each night. Pretty happy with how this came out. The updated ColorMask script with the color circle displayed makes it easier to hone in on a specific color region to tweak.
