Description

At the end of the last good imaging night, I had around 2 h to invest in a new target. As I did not want to start a new long project, I looked for something bright. I came across the planetary nebula NGC 1501 also called the Oyster. 2 hours RGB is short but I was very (positively) surprised at the outcome.

It is an interesting target too, at a distance of 4000 ly it is quite near, and the central Wolf-Rayet star seems to pulsate at a very fast frequency of 30 mins ... Gaia data suggest that it is a binary system.

80 x 30 sec per RGB channel, the image is heavily cropped already.

Bye for now,

CS  Volker
