Description

The Fossil Footprint - Emission Nebula NGC 1491, aka the Fossil Footprint, lies approximately 10,000 light-years distant in the constellation of Perseus, The Hero.  The region glows red in the light of ionized Hydrogen gas and features a star-forming region in the bright center of the nebula.  As a bonus, a small, dense and possibly unnamed cluster of stars adorns the upper left of the image.

Equipment and processing used: Celestron RASA-11 telescope with ZWO ASI294 MC Pro one shot color camera riding on an iOptron CEM120-EC2 mount.  N.I.N.A./PHD2 used for image acquisition.  47 individual five minute exposures (3.9 hours of data), captured in the early morning hours of November 15-18, 2022 from Mariposa, Ca.   Processed using PixInsight.
