Description

This is part of the Cygnus Loop, a supernova remnant of a star that exploded 10 to 20 thousand years ago. This object is at the western edge of the Cygnus Loop, and is a cloud of heated and ionized gas. The image is a composite of subframes taken through Hydrogen (Ha) (maybe?explanation below) and Oxygen (OIII) filters and then combined with Ha mapped to Red, and Oxygen mapped to Green and Blue, i.e. HOO. The subframes were collected in July 2023. I replaced the Narrowband stars with RBG stars, which were shot and processed separately.

My Mom asked if I could image this after she saw a picture of it in a magazine. I'm not sure if what I've done here compares to that, but I'm pretty happy with it. I am if the Ha was actually shot through an SII filter since I discovered that at some point I reversed them. Rather than research this further, I plan to return to the Cygnus Loop at some point in the future, and will do some captures and comparisons, possibly reshooting this object, or getting the appropriate data and re-processing. In the meantime enjoy!
