Description

I photographed NGC 7129 from July-September 2023 using Ha and LRGB filters. I was happy to see some of the Ha structures rising up from the central core of the star cluster.

This image was a challenge to process due to the reddish brown dust, dark nebulosity, and combined Ha data. It was a balancing act to get contrast between the various layers. StarEX was also not pulling the central bright star away from the starless layer, so I stretched the image prior to star removal to maintain some accuracy of the stretch.

I added the Ha data to the RGB image using a continuum subtraction method in Pixelmath. I also put 10% of the Ha signal into the blue channel after reading Kevin Morefield's processing description for NGC 6744, which adds some blue color to the Ha giving it a more of a magenta color. The Ha signal was also added to the luminance layer.

I took roughly 10 hours of luminance and would have liked to have collected more to bring out the dim brownish dust. Maybe next year!
