Description

Using the 'The Night Sky' I found this intriguing planetary nebula in Aquila. Turns out this object is very low in the southern sky so I knew I only had a couple of hours of imaging time.

So I reconfigured my scope to image with the 11 inch SCT using ZWO ASI2600. I setup everything around 8PM and was imaging by about 8:15PM. That time of the night the sky is still a little bit brighter than I would want, but I wanted to get as many exposures before NGC 6772 ducked down too low.

I set the ZWO ASI2600 for 2 minute exposures, -10C temp, gain of 100 and binned 1x1 (I forgot to reset it to 2x2 which would have been more appropriate for this setup). I used SVX130 and ASI290 for autoguiding. I just installed the latest PHD 2 (2.6.1 dev2). Pegasus Falcon rotator used but not necessary for this object.
SGP managed everything including meridian flip.
Ended up taking 106 images of 2 minutes and 52 flats 0.15 seconds. Finished imaging at about 12:30 AM.

NGC 6772 is a decent planetary nebula, but certainly no match for the Ring Nebula. But then what is?? It is about 4,000 light years away and has apparent magnitude of 14. It is also fairly small ..only 81 arc-seconds).

Processing doe with Pixinsight.
