Description

M12 is a nice glob in Ophiucus around 23,000 light years distance.  Astronomers suspect that many low mass stars have been stripped from M12 as the cluster passed through denser regions of the Milky Way.  Looking closely at the lower left portion of the glob's halo is a pair of distant galaxies.  The larger and brighter of the pair is PGC 1103219 and is probably in the neighborhood of 800 million of lightyears away.
