Description

This image shows the Bright Nebulae LBN 635 and LBN 636.  They are an emission region and a reflection nebula (respectively) and are centered in this image.  The dark nebula LDN 1340  as well as  star forming clouds LDN 1340 A,B,C surround LBN 635 and 636. The IR spectrum open cluster  Majaess 29 is in the region of LDN 1340A and is mostly obscured by the dusty interstellar medium of LDN 1340A. Its distance is 3,016 light years  - meaning the cloud must be closer in distance in order to obscure the cluster. The image shows a wider field context of the region with its extended nebulosity. Interestingly, the image shows some background galaxies.  Several of these galaxies can be seen  through the dusty interstellar matter (though somewhat obscurely). These galaxies Have catalog designations from the ZOAG catalog.  These objects and some of the brighter stars are identified in the annotated image.
