Description

M20 is a well-known nebula in the southern skies of North America. I found this nebula interesting because it has strong emission and reflection components, so imaging it can take advantage of broadband AND narrowband filters.  I have posted 2 revisions.

One, a LRGB, showing the expected red and blue areas, cut by the dark dust lanes.  It really is a  beautiful nebula!

The second is an untraditional SHOO treatment where I wanted to map the spectra of the H and S filters into the red colors, and put the spectra of the O filter into the green and blue colors. To do this, I created HOO and SOO images, and then averaged them to a SHOO. To add detail I then combined the processed L channel. It's interesting to see how much O is in the "red' part of the nebula, and how the stronger H and S concentrations are actually around the rim of that area. I also didn't expect the H and S on the lower part of the 'blue' part to continue so strongly.

My final revision, and the one I believe I like best, is an HSO treatment with RGB stars.
