Description

Revised 2/2023:
This had to be done.  This early attempt by me had decent data.  Not great, but good enough to reprocess.  With this new telescope and camera, tilt was still an issue, so the original had many issues with the stars.  This one still has issues with doubling of stars near the one edge when star correction was applied.  Otherwise, for most of the frame, and certainly for the cluster, BXT did a great job.  Noise, color correction, detail, stretch and star-reduction (trying to be more sensitive to faint RN and apparent depth of field), etc., are all closer to what I want in 2023.  I did some star-reduction across the image, but less so on the cluster.  I wanted this to stand out.  Pop, if you know what I mean.  If you crop down to just the cluster and the bubble part of the image, I think it makes for a fairly dramatic contrast.  No new data.  Started from the subs.  Rotated to closer match Aladin presentation.

Original Description:
A nice grouping found on the Cassiopeia side of Cepheus that includes the Bubble nebula embedded in wider nebulosity. Also an open cluster nearby and smaller emission nebula NGC 7538. Finally, a few smaller areas of dense dark nebula, one in the lower left that closely resembles an actively swimming shark. This is not just a dense starfield, but also dense gas and dust as judged by opacity. The opacity in this direction is proven by the fact that no deeper objects such as small galaxies can be seen in any location, hard as I tried to find any. Cartes du Ciel shows this field to be just outside of the dense Milky Way starfields, but I think I would have drawn that map a bit differently. The stars are de-emphasized in this final image.

Again, I include the initial PI stacked image with only the modest screen transfer level of stack and with the channels unlinked to compare and allow users interested in this gear a means to judge capabilities. Sorry for the abundant star abberations across much of the periphery of this image. I was still struggling with tilt and proper back focus (as I still am, more or less).
