Description

This is a very large faint ancient planetary nebula located 1400 light years away in the constellation of Perseus at a declination of +50 degrees.  It spans 22 arc-minutes in our apparent view.  This corresponds to a large diameter of 9 light years.

This PN, also known as PNG 149.7-03.3 and PK 150-031, was discovered by Ishida and Weinberger in 1987.

Like many PN, the outer rim is stronger in HII while the inner section is stronger in OIII. The PN is a bit distorted, likely due to interaction with the ISM.  The progenitor star is the tiny cyan star identified in the mouseover, to the left of the center of the nebula.

4 galaxies are seen behind the PN as noted in the mouseover.  @Alan Brunelle has found distance information for one of them, indicating that they are about 450 million light years away.
