Description

A project to combine last years data from 2022 and a top it up with this years data in 2023. The combination of the two sessions resulted in 23 hours of integration.

The challenge was to match data from two different cameras (mono and OSC), two different rotations and two different sensors (full frame and APSC).

Last years data was using a full frame mono camera for LRGB, and this years data was from an APSC cropped frame OSC camera.  To combine the data I used PixInsight's WBPP scripts in multiple sessions to obtain matching filter sub exposures for calibration and integration.  The process steps were roughly as follows.

ASI2600MC Pro:
OSC Calibration, cosmetic correction and delayering with the output set to create individual L, R and G calibrated frames.

ASI6200MM Pro:
LRGB Calibrate and cosmetic correction.

Choose a reference frame for registration (APSC in this case) and use for all the registration processes for each filter.

WBPP Load all calibrated frames for each filter as a separate WBPP session, and run image weighting, registration and Local Normalization to create a final set of images ready to integrate.

Run Image Integration for each filter set to create a light master for each filter.

Run Drizzle Integration to create X2 drizzled masters ready for processing.

The RGB drizzled masters were RGB combined and processed with DBE, Background Neutralisation, Colour Calibration, Blur Exterminator then resampled back to the original pixel ratio using integer resample.  This was later sent on for normal RGB processing to be combined with the luminance channel.

The drizzled luminance master was processed with DBE, Blur Xterminator and then resampled to the original pixel ratio using integer resample.

Now the normal LRGB processing could go ahead with all the masters matched and ready to edit.

I am sure this could have been done quicker in another way, but I found it really educational blinking the outputs from each stage of processes to understand what WBPP is doing at each stage of the way.  It never ceases to amaze me how you can match so many disparate images and image registration does all the magic for you.

I hope the results were worth the time and effort. Many thanks for looking.
