A new open project...

Original Image: Oxygen data SCT 235mm f/6 (FL=1,435 mm)
Image B: RASA f/2 field of view
Image C: SCT 235/f/6 HOO (60 OIII+ 40%Ha, 100 O-III, 100% O-III)

After 3 days in the Rockies enjoying the geology of Kananaskis country, I decided on September 06,  to point the 235 mm f/6 scope with an oxygen filter out to the Meridian. I have enjoyed the SCT scope so much this year, the RASA f/2 is still in storage (kicking myself!).  Have a look at the difference between the FOV (Field of View) using a RASA (image B) vs. Image C.

I captured 3 hrs of Oxygen - III data on IC5070 and Messier 27, both in the constellation CYgnus or 'The Swan'. The sky was very good with a moon at 1%, thus the perfect time to take O-III data.

In this image, space dust, bok globules, bok pillars and star dust can be seen in this emission nebula.

The surrounding stars heat are ionizing the hydrogen gas making it 'glow'. If weather permits, hydrogen filter will be used for the next part of this project, followed by Sulfur.

According to wikipedia bok globules: " are isolated and relatively small dark nebulae, containing dense cosmic dust and gas from which star formation may take place. Bok globules are found within H II regions, and typically have a mass of about 2 to 50 solar mass".

Cygnus 56 is a white star, 135 light year from earth, with a surface temperature of 8,000 kelvin and ionizes the gases and lights up the hydrogen cloud and the sky!

The histogram of my image Indicate 3 colors, but oxygen is in the green channel.

This project is a continuation of my evaluation of the Baader-cmos-optimized H-a, O-III, S-II filters with the SCT at f/6.  IC5070 with the RASA is an easy target. I am curious what the end result will be with the SCT using an exposure of 5 minutes.
O-III : 36 x 300 sec = 3 hrs stacked using ASTAP, processed with StarTools 8.

In the mean time, keep looking up!

Clear skies.
