Description

Had a great inspiration to capture this target from an acquaintance and fellow astronomy club member. I thought his take on it was amazing, and obviously others did as well. About a week later he was awarded an IOTD. Congratulations James Peirce. Thank you for the inspiration.

My effort is presented here.

ARP273 is a member of the ARP (Halton Arp) atlas of peculiar galaxies. I have taken great interest in these lately. ARP 273, consisting of galaxies PGC8961 and PGC8970 approx. 300Mly away in Andromeda. These are an interacting pair that show distortions as they pass near and possibly through one another.

Acquisition was made from my backyard observatory (ROR).
11/8/2023 to 11/11/2023

268 X 90sec L 6.7 hours
42 x 240 sec R 2.8 hours
35 x 240 sec G 2.3 hours
38 x 240 sec B 2.5 hours

During processing a on-line friend and someone I look up to offered some data on the same target from their efforts. Thanks Mark Ellis.
I processed the LRGB master lights both separately and combined. In the end I ended up using the data I had acquired and a 50/50 mixture of the stars. Mine and his CDK with diffraction spikes.
I found this combination the most pleasing.

Enjoy,

Chris
